Why pediatric dentistry residency?

Having been working in my position for. My decision to apply for pediatric dental residency was obvious, but it certainly came with some challenges. After working in my position for a year and a half, I had established a good relationship with my patients and their families. I was seeing patients returning from memory with better oral behavior and hygiene.

However, I realized that I needed to formalize my training to fill in the missing pieces of the puzzle and add more tools to my toolbox. I wanted to be skilled, knowledgeable and competent in all aspects of pediatric dentistry. I wanted to develop my skills with regard to techniques and materials that I knew conceptually. I wanted to give my patients the best chance of ensuring rehabilitation and maintaining oral health.

All aspects of pediatric dentistry are included in the program, but there is an emphasis on hospital dentistry with extensive exposure to pediatric patients with medical problems. The Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program is offered through a partnership between Nationwide Children's Hospital and The Ohio State University School of Dentistry. The Division of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center has offered a nationally recognized residency program in pediatric dentistry since 1959.
